Hi Jimmy , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my career as a firefighter, which shaped how I look at buildings, safety, and responsibility from day one. Being on the front lines, seeing firsthand how homes fail in emergencies—and how much people lose when they do—left a lasting impression on me.

Over time, that experience pushed me toward construction. I founded Oakmont Builders with a focus on high-quality, custom residential construction throughout Los Angeles. From the beginning, the goal was never just to build beautiful homes, but to build them correctly—thoughtfully engineered, code-compliant, and resilient.

As Oakmont grew, we became known for taking on complex projects that require careful planning, coordination, and trust. That foundation has naturally led us to where we are today, helping homeowners in places like the Palisades and Altadena rebuild after devastating fires. In many ways, it feels like a full-circle moment—combining my background in fire service with decades of construction experience to help people rebuild safer, stronger homes and move forward.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Construction is cyclical by nature, and over the years we’ve had to navigate a lot of change. COVID was a major turning point—it disrupted supply chains, extended timelines, and forced constant adjustments in how projects were priced, scheduled, and communicated.

On top of that, we’ve seen unprecedented material and labor cost escalations, which required us to manage customer expectations very carefully while still protecting the quality of the work. Walking that line—being transparent with clients while absorbing as much volatility as possible—was one of the biggest challenges.

Through it all, we made a conscious decision not to cut corners. We focused on tightening our processes, strengthening our relationships with suppliers and trades, and staying disciplined in how we operate. That’s allowed us to continue delivering a high-quality product at a fair and competitive price, even during some of the most unpredictable years our industry has ever seen.

We’ve been impressed with Oakmont Builders, Inc. , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Oakmont Builders is a Los Angeles–based general contracting firm specializing in high-end residential construction, custom homes, and complex rebuilds. Over the years, we’ve become particularly known for projects that require a higher level of coordination—tight sites, challenging jurisdictions, fire-rebuilds, and homes that demand both precision and durability.

What truly sets us apart is our approach. We don’t just build; we guide homeowners through the entire process. After events like the 2025 fires in Altadena and the Palisades, many families were overwhelmed by insurance, permitting, design decisions, and uncertainty. Our role has been to bring clarity, structure, and honesty to what can otherwise be an incredibly stressful experience.

From a technical standpoint, we place a strong emphasis on fire-resilient construction, long-term durability, and building systems that are engineered to perform—not just look good on day one. That includes thoughtful material selection, proper detailing, and a commitment to doing things the right way, even when it takes more effort.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’ve earned. Much of our work comes from referrals, repeat clients, and community relationships, which speaks volumes in this industry. We’ve built our reputation on transparency, accountability, and standing by our clients—especially during difficult rebuilds.

What I want readers to know is that Oakmont Builders is deeply invested in the communities we serve. We understand what’s at stake when someone is rebuilding their home, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our goal is always the same: to help homeowners rebuild safer, stronger, and with confidence in the process and the end result.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is my family. I have four daughters, and a lot of my joy comes from spending time with them—especially watching them do what they love. They’re all passionate about horses, so much of our life outside of work revolves around riding, being at the barn, and simply being together.

That time grounds me. It’s a reminder of why the work matters in the first place. Building homes isn’t just about construction—it’s about creating safe, stable places where families can live their lives, make memories, and feel secure.

Balancing a demanding business with family life isn’t always easy, but those moments with my daughters keep everything in perspective and motivate me to lead and build with care, integrity, and purpose.
